Some important milestones in the history of Deminor

  • 1990: Deminor is founded by Eric Coppieters and the group Deficom (then Definance), a Belgian listed private equity investor. Launch of the first activities in Belgium related to listed and privately owned companies.
  • 1991: Pierre Nothomb joins Deminor and becomes its first full-time managing partner.
  • 1992: Bernard Thuysbaert joins Deminor with a focus on family businesses in Flanders. Launch of the first activities in France.
  • 1993: Deminor wins its first major case on behalf of private and institutional investors in the controversial acquisition of the Belgian group Wagon-Lits by the French group Accor.
  • 1995: Deminor launches its corporate governance voting and rating activities for several European institutional investors, initially from Belgium and then by launching offices in France (1995), the Netherlands (1997) and Italy (2002). The international expansion of the activities is moving fast.
  • 2003: Group Deficom and Eric Coppieters sell their stake in Deminor to Deminor partners.
  • 2004: Deminor acts for the first time as liaison counsel on behalf of European clients in several US class actions, in addition to its collective actions in Europe for investors who have suffered damages due to fraud, mismanagement, miscommunication or other grounds.
  • 2005: Deminor sells its voting and rating activities to Institutional Shareholder Services (now RiskMetrics – MSCI Group).
  • 2008: Creation of a new business unit, Deminor Recovery Services, dedicated to helping companies and investors recover their claims.
  • 2013: Internal restructuring allowing the two separate business units to operate as two separate legal entities. The Shareholder & Governance Services activities are transferred to a new Belgian company, Deminor NV/SA.
  • 2014: Deminor Recovery Services is further developed by Erik Bomans, Charles Demoulin and Edouard Fremault, gets a completely separate website and expands internationally with offices in Luxembourg, London and New York, as well as a representative office in Hong Kong.
  • 2016: Deminor Shareholder & Governance Services opens an office in Ghent.
  • 2017: Pierre-Alexis Léonard becomes an active partner and managing director of Deminor NV/SA.
  • 2018: An Advisory Board is set up with three external members, acting as a sounding board for the management of Shareholder & Governance Services activities.
